The first extensive reference source dedicated entirely to tablature is soon to be published. Tablature 1300–1750. An Encyclopedia edited by John Griffiths, David Dolata, and Philippe Vendrix, is an encyclopaedic collection of the diverse tablatures of all kinds from the 14th to 18th centuries from the period when tablature was a mainstream notation. The book provides studies of 435 works, selected from among the thousands of surviving sources, for over 40 instruments. They are presented with full-colour facsimiles, transcriptions, and commentaries prepared by an international editorial team of more than 30 leading scholars and players.
